FLO Ludhiana, under the leadership of chairperson Shweta Jindal, organised an exhibition, Phulkari Bhandan, to celebrate the rich legacy of Phulkari — Punjab’s iconic folk embroidery art at Hyatt Regency, Ludhiana. As a part of FLO’s Handloom, Textile, and Handicrafts initiative, this exhibition aims to empower women artisans by providing necessary resources and helping them thrive in modern markets.
Phulkari Bandhan is focused on weaving stories of heritage empowerment and sustainability. Bandhan 3.0 – The Rakhi Edit honoured Indian textile roots and got Phulkari Women weavers from the villages of Patiala. Around 250 weavers were present at the event. The FLO committee arranged a direct customer sale platform to help these weavers gain financially and spread the art form.
The cost of the stalls was borne by FLO Ludhiana. The highlight of Bandhan was the curated Phulkari stall to promote and preserve Punjab’s age-old textile traditions. Through this initiative, FLO not only brought attention to the artistry and cultural significance of Phulkari but also directly supported the artisans involved, ensuring their work received the visibility and the value it deserved.
In line with FLO’s commitment to inclusion and social welfare, the event also featured a special stall for a local NGO that produces handmade goods. FLO Ludhiana proudly provided the stall space free of cost, enabling the NGO to showcase and sell its products while encouraging entrepreneurship among underprivileged communities. PhulkariBandhan impacted a total of 300 artisans, engaged 450 members, and impacted 2750-3000 people. More than 4000 people visited the two-day exhibition.
