The event brought together leading female filmmakers, actors, cinematographers, and casting directors for a powerful conversation on storytelling, visibility, and gendered experiences behind and in front of the camera. The thought-provoking event celebrated women who are occupying spaces that have long been male-dominated.

Speakers & Panellists:

  • Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari – Award-winning Filmmaker & Writer
  • Neha Parti Matiyani – Cinematographer
  • Shruti Mahajan – Casting Director
  • Fatima Sana Shaikh – Actor

The event delved into the nuanced journeys of these dynamic women, highlighting how their personal experiences, challenges, and creative freedom have translated into stories that matter. With a focus on equality, agency, and perspective, the evening emphasised the importance of mentorship, inclusion, and solidarity within the arts.

The panel discussion was insightful, bold, and at times deeply personal, drawing from each woman’s lived experience in the industry and opening up space for fresh, fearless conversations.

Key Learnings

  • Amplifying the stories of women creators who are changing the narrative of Indian cinema.
  • Inspiring dialogue among YFLO members about gender equity in the arts.
  • From Neha Parti Matiyani’s bold declaration that being a mother makes her stronger behind the lens, to Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari’s reflections on writing with truth, the panel reaffirmed that women in film are not waiting for space; they are claiming it, owning it, and transforming it.
  • Sparking interest in future sessions focused on creativity, representation, and cultural storytelling.
  • Building bridges between the entertainment industry and the YFLO community through cross-sector collaboration.
  • Women in Film reminded us that when women tell their stories as writers, performers, visionaries, or technicians, they shift how the world sees itself.
