10 Steps to Stay Safe from Hackers and Online Frauds
- Use strong and unique passwords for each platform; avoid using personal information.
- Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) wherever available, especially on banking and email platforms.
- Avoid clicking on suspicious links or attachments, even if they appear to come from known contacts.
- Update software regularly: OS, apps, antivirus, and browsers.
- Never share OTPs or CVVs, even if the request appears to be from your bank or a service provider.
- Secure your Wi-Fi network – change default router passwords and hide your network name if possible.
- Beware of public Wi-Fi – avoid financial transactions or accessing sensitive information when connected to unsecured networks.
- Keep a check on app permissions. Don’t grant unnecessary access to your microphone, location, or gallery.
- Monitor financial transactions regularly to check statements and activate transaction alerts.
- Back up important data and store it on encrypted drives or secured cloud services.
