FLO Ahmedabad, under the leadership of Chairperson Madhu Banthia, in collaboration with Dreams Foundation, organised a rural skilling and entrepreneurship program in Biliamba village. The main objective of this initiative is fostering self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods for rural women by equipping them with income-generating skills and entrepreneurial opportunities.
The program aligns with FLO’s broader vision of empowering women through community development at the grassroots level. Also, the initiative is meticulously curated by two core team members, named Ms. Vandana Agarwal and Ms. Dhruma Shah. The session focused on driving rural transformation through women-led enterprises through opportunities such as dairy farming and vermicomposting.
Key Takeaways & Learnings
- Dairy Farming
Initiated with just 5 women, the project has now scaled to benefit over 100 women actively engaged in dairy operations. Monthly earnings per woman range between ₹9,000 to ₹18,000, significantly improving household income.
- Vermicomposting
Women were trained to create vermicompost using cow dung, dried leaves, and earthworms. The activity generated a revenue of over ₹3 lakhs in just 3 months, making it a viable micro-enterprise model.\
Outcome Of Rural Skilling & Entrepreneurship Initiative
Over 100 rural women benefited through this program as they have stable income sources. Migrant families have returned to the village, and children have re-enrolled in local schools, reviving the social fabric of the community.
The initiative has received recognition from government agencies, resulting in access to loans for livestock purchase and further enterprise expansion. This rural skilling program in Biliamba village marks a significant milestone for FLO Ahmedabad in creating replicable models for rural empowerment. FICCI FLO remains committed to building a self-reliant and inclusive rural India, one enterprise at a time.
