‘Harit Sankalp’ Environment Day Initiative

FLO Siliguri, in collaboration with Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC), organized ‘Harit Sankalp’, a green initiative to date, in observance of World Environment Day. The event was supported by the Hon’ble Mayor, Shri Gautam Deb, and emphasized sustainability and rural livelihood. Key activities included the plantation and distribution of rare indigenous trees, along with community outreach through umbrella and food packet distribution.

Hon’ble Mayor of Siliguri, Shri Gautam Deb was the key supporter of this initiative spearheaded by Project Head Ms. Vineeta Baid. The initiative was designed with a dual focus on environmental sustainability and supporting rural livelihoods.

Umbrellas and food packets were distributed to underprivileged communities. Rare indigenous trees, including Arjun, Haritaki, Nageshwar, and Bokul, were specifically highlighted, indicating a focus on native biodiversity. Over 300 saplings were distributed among SMC staff.

The ‘Harit Sankalp’ focused on indigenous tree species, engaged municipal bodies, and directly involved members and the underprivileged. The collaboration and multi-faceted approach have set a new benchmark for the chapter’s environmental and social contributions.
