YFLO Ahmedabad Donated Two Purified Water Coolers To Ragpicker Women’s Community Centres

YFLO Ahmedabad, led by Chairperson Neha Goyal, installed purified water coolers especially for ragpicker women at two community centres. The initiative aims to provide safe and cold drinking water, especially during peak summer heat. The two water coolers are set up at Piyar Centre – Ranip and Suraksha Swachhta Kendra – Near Airport. Each unit costs ₹50,000 (incl. installation). The first installation of a purified water cooler took place on July 04, and the second installation on August 02, 2025.

This is a part of the vision of having a city where no one goes thirsty, regardless of their background or location. The initiative took place in collaboration with Paryavaran Mitra, a socially conscious and environmentally focused initiative that empowers rag picking women in Ahmedabad by enhancing their livelihoods and safeguarding their dignity. Despite playing a pivotal role in waste management, these women often face severe marginalisation, unsafe working conditions, and financial instability.

Paryavaran Mitra addresses these issues through structured employment, support systems, and eco-centric programs. In Ahmedabad alone, approximately 30,000 rag-picking women collect nearly 600,000 kg of waste daily. Yet, their contributions remain underappreciated. Paryavaran Mitra was created to uplift these women while improving environmental sustainability. By empowering the very hands that clean our cities, we build a society rooted in compassion, fairness, and sustainability.
