Times Of India Press Visit July 10th, 2010

The visit to the Times of India press conducted on the 10th July, 2010 gave the YFLO women a sneak peek into the world of newspaper printing. The Times of India has the largest circulation among all English-language newspapers in the world, across all formats. The press located in Kandivali, Mumbai has an area of 15 acres. This huge territory has huge warehouses and massive printing presses working 24 hours a day and 362 days a year. The printing press in Delhi is no 2 in the world for printing, quality-imaging and the Mumbai one is no 3. Daily around 30-40 lakh copies get printed! The Kandivali printing press prints the following publications: Times of India, The Economic Times,Mumbai Mirror,Pune Mirror, the Navbharat Times (a Hindi-language daily broadsheet), the Maharashtra Times (a Marathi-language daily broadsheet). The humble copy that comes to your doorstep every morning actually costs Rs 22, whereas you get it for Rs 5. This is because of the advertisements that helps subsidise the copy and make the price lower. The newspaper goes through an array of processes before finally coming out as a final folded broadsheet. The YFLO women witnessed the process right from the conception of the page in the editorial office to the final product and its distribution. The visit was much enjoyed and appreciated by the women, as they understood the effort that goes into making a newspaper. I have attached pictures from the visit herewith.
