From Awareness to Action: A Masterclass on Sustainable Living

FLO Uttarakhand, under the leadership of Chairperson Dr. Geeta Khanna, successfully observed World Environment Day by organizing a Masterclass on Sustainable Living at Tamtara, Rajpur Road, Dehradun. The session was facilitated by Yugal Sehgal, brand manager at Respun, and chaired by FLO Secretary, Smriti Batta.

Respuni, a textile recycling company committed to solving the growing problem of textile waste, was invited to conduct an insightful awareness session focused on sustainability, recycling, and the reuse of old clothes. The event was organized under the Sustainability Initiative and Handloom and Textile Initiative, and aimed at inspiring individuals to adopt a more environmentally responsible lifestyle.

With passion and expertise, Yugal Sehgal guided the masterclass using impactful storytelling and interactive discussion. His engaging approach helped participants understand the importance of making conscious lifestyle choices and demonstrated how small yet meaningful actions can lead to sustainable living. The session concluded with a Q&A round, ensuring participants left with valuable knowledge and practical takeaways.

Complementing the awareness session, an old clothes collection drive was also launched. The drive aimed to prevent textile waste from ending up in landfills by collecting used garments and sending them for recycling. With the support of eco-warriors comprising rural men and women at Respun, these clothes will be converted into fiber and yarn. An overwhelming 300 kilograms of clothing were collected from members and non-members on the first day itself.

The collection drive continued till 07 June, 2025. The event was ideated and executed by Smriti Batta, who also served as the Day Chair. FICCI FLO member Sunita Vatsalya graciously came on board as the hospitality partner, while the wellness brand Mind.Body.Soul by SB supported the event as the gifting partner.

The success of the event was evident from the active participation and enthusiastic involvement of the attendees. The session brought together 31 enthusiastic participants to showcase their strong commitment to their environmental responsibilities and their collective vision for a cleaner and greener future.
