FICCI FLO FELICITATES 11 EXCEPTIONAL WOMEN ACHIEVERS OF MAHARASHTRA Mumbai, 15 March 2014

A society’s level of evolution can be gauged by the level of empowerment of its women. To this end, FLO, the women’s wing of FICCI, has been instrumental in establishing and conducting the prestigious WOMEN ACHIEVERS’ AWARDS for the past four years. What’s more, FLO Bombay Chapter has taken another pioneering step by hosting the first nationally televised FLO Awards with various partners, where industry doyens have received their awards in the presence of a host of eminent personalities.

This year, FLO – Bombay Chapter, in conjunction with the Golden Maharashtra Development Council, conducted the EXCEPTIONAL WOMEN ACHIEVERS’ (EWA) AWARDS, felicitating 11 women from Maharashtra who have been the first to reach the pinnacle of success in their respective fields. The recipients included SmtPratibhaPatil, the First Woman President of India, Chief Justice SujataManohar, Election Commissioner NeelaSatyanarayanan, Police Commissioner MeeranBorwankar, Navratna PSU head Nishi Vasudeva, Dr Indira Hinduja, Past President of BSE Deena Mehta, MandataiAmte as well as SNDT, as the first women’s university in India.

These extraordinary winners were applauded by an august audience that included PadmashriAnupamKher, DrAjitRanade, Madhukar Kamath, Jackie Shroff and SushilJiwrajka; the top rung of the awards was presented by Governor of Maharashtra Shri K Sankaranarayanan.”When Indian women are empowered, they can achieve heights of excellence,” he said, to resounding applause and the hope that events like these herald a better tomorrow for the girl child in Maharashtra, and indeed the rest of the country. The rapt audience, which numbered over 600, also comprised an active contingent of FLO members, including MalvikaRai, National President, and ManjuKalra, Executive Director, FICCI. Gilding the event were the entertaining emcee DrNishigandhaVad and an enchanting musical journey with playback singers Madhushree and Rekha Bhardwaj.
